Wedding gowns can take up to six months or more after the order is
placed to arrive in your hands, so start wading through that sea of
satin, silk, taffeta, chiffon, brocade, shantung and organza as soon as
you can. Leave yourself time for alterations and unforeseen glitches.
Obviously, no website can tell you what style and fabric are best for
you. But don't worry -- your instinct will pull you through and when you
find the right dress, you'll know.
You'll want to take one person shopping with you (your mother or a
close friend, for instance) to consult with on matters of style and
appearance and to fight with when you get frustrated because you
don't like any of the fifty dresses you've tried on. It's wise not to take
any more than one lucky person with you; the situation is stressful
enough without inserting the opinions of five other people. If you try to
please everyone, you'll never find anything, so stick with one person
you trust.
